Gamers... blind?"
Sure, answering the title question, yes, I know the concept of 'Blind Gamers' sounds funny, since in most games, you need to be able to see to make the game mechanics work, but lately, there are several games that cater to audiences with different abilities. This time, I'll talk about a game called...
LOST & HOUND
POST BY LUIS ADRIANO.
A brief introduction...
Firstly, I'll give you some information about this game. It was released on Steam for PC in 2019, created by 'Salty Dog Studios.
In this rescue adventure game, the player follows an audio trail using a dog named Biscuit.
The game reflects the strong sense of hearing of a dog to execute the rescue mission.
The most interesting fact is that each level of this game is inspired by real-life rescue operations
starring dogs. The operation involves sniffing out survivors from earthquake ruins or collapsed
mines.
Brian aimed to develop a video game that would be accessible to the visually impaired gaming community. He also wanted to maintain the visually appealing nature that attracts mainstream gamers. Lost and Hound may seem like a regular game. But once you play with headphones connected, there's a whole new world where you can complete levels using only audio.
Brian is of the opinion that most people consider accessibility as a secondary concern towards the end of the production process. But that's a very misguided approach. He says it's not after the entire production process is completed that developers should think about what they can do regarding cognitive impairment and visual disability. They should consider accessibility function from the outset and work on it.
